Native gold is an element and a mineral. It is highly prized by people because of its attractive color, its rarity, resistance to tarnish, and its many special properties some of which are unique to gold. No other element has more uses than gold. All of these factors help support a price of gold that is higher than all but a few other metals.
Gold and silver are obtained from a variety of ores, in some of which the gold predominates, in others silver is the primary value, while in still a third class these two metals may be mixed with the base metals, such as lead, copper, zinc, and iron.

Gold and silver are obtained from a variety of ores. Most people think of nuggets and such, but the truth is that very little comes from nuggets nearly all newly mined gold comes from ores mined from the natural hard rocks that contain gold in tiny, even microscopic particles.
1. Avoid Large Gold Bars. 10ounce and 50 grams gold bars are among the easiest to tamper with as they can be drilled, filled with tungsten, and then plugged again with gold. This is more difficult with units 1 oz and smaller. Tungsten is extraordinarily hard whereas gold is soft.
